We fulfill our mission to improve the living conditions of orphaned, abandoned, and poverty-stricken children around the world in two ways: through our child sponsorship program and our humanitarian trips.
Working with local families and a variety of partners, we find children that are the poorest of the poor to support. They receive shelter, food, education, clothing, and health care. We place orphaned and abandoned children with families where they can receive one-on-one care and we provide assistance to families that would otherwise be unable to care for their children.
Our humanitarian health task force sends teams to Haiti and the Dominican Republic to provide free medical and dental care to poverty-stricken children and their providers, and to teach basic health principles. Our first organized trip was in June 2005 and we sent a humanitarian health team of twenty five volunteers to Haiti. Our trip was cut short because of civil unrest, but for two and half days the team provided health education, medical and dental care to nearly 600 Haitians.
We have since sent another group to Haiti and three groups to the Dominican Republic. In March 2006, IASK medical and dental volunteers worked for five days, with each team treating nearly 400 patients. In September 2006, we sent another team of 11 volunteers who spent five days caring for over 600 patients. Another humanitarian team just returned from the Dominican Republic in March 2007. The team set up make-shift clinics in poor areas surrounding the cities and saw 458 patients, most of them children. The teams have distributed countless hygiene kits, vitamins, blankets, school kits, newborn kits, clothes and toys to impoverished families.
The needs in these two countries are great, and you can help. Even a small donation can make a big difference in the life of a child. There are several options:
• You can sponsor a child in our foster care program. Only one dollar a day provides three balanced meals for a child. $360/year or $30/month will stop the hunger in a child’s stomach for a full year.
• You can volunteer as humanitarian health care team member. We need pediatricians, family practice physicians, dermatologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, dental assistants, and translators. And there are many opportunities for service in other areas.
• You can join our Membership Club. Only a small contribution of $50 a year significantly improves the living conditions of a child. As a sponsor, you receive periodic updates of the child you sponsor, and you can even correspond with them. IASK ensures that 100 percent of your Sponsor and Membership Club donations go directly to the foster care and the humanitarian effort.
We invite you to join us. The need is great. Please help us fill the hole and change a child’s life. Together we can make a difference.
